Brekina

PIC-R    'Roadtest #7' / 'Closer Look #2' / Drummer Models

BMW Dixi

Founded in 1979, Brekina started production of their detailed 1/87 oldtimer models in 1980. According to Brekina, the 'Brekina' name comes from BREisgau (place where the company is seated), KInzigtal (place where the models were made) and NAturgetreu (accurate), but it can hardly be coincidental that the companyname can als be made from the first letters of the founders names, BReitenbach, KIessling and NAnn. Their first model, the Opel P4 was released in the summer of 1980. In the following years the companies focus shifted to offering models of prototypes from the 1950s to the 1970s.

Opel P4 Wanderer Convertible

Brekina is one of the major manufacturers of 87th scale models and instead of listing all models ever made, we will focus on the models that are a little different (For instance special editions). A complete summary of all models Brekina released over the years can be found in the Brekina 'Auto-Heft' which is published every year and contains, among other things, a full listing of the models made as specials editions in the previous year and the standard catalogue for the next year. The 'Auto-Heft' is available from hobbyshops or can be ordered from Brekina directly.

Just like many other manufacturers, Brekina doesn't have subsidiaries in all countries they sell their models in. American collectors for instance may have found the early Brekina models sold under the 'Stevens International' label. Pictured here is a Stevens International counterdisplay.
